In this tutorial we learn how to install selinux-policy-mls on Ubuntu 20.04.

What is selinux-policy-mls

selinux-policy-mls is:

This is the reference policy for SE Linux built with MLS support. It allows giving data labels such as “Top Secret” and preventing such data from leaking to processes or files with lower classification.

It was developed for Common Criteria LSPP certification for RHEL. It will probably never be well supported in Debian and is only recommended for students who want to learn about the security features used by the military.

There are three methods to install selinux-policy-mls on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install selinux-policy-mls Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install selinux-policy-mls using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install selinux-policy-mls

Install selinux-policy-mls Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install selinux-policy-mls using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install selinux-policy-mls

Install selinux-policy-mls Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install selinux-policy-mls using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install selinux-policy-mls

How To Uninstall selinux-policy-mls on Ubuntu 20.04

To uninstall only the selinux-policy-mls package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove selinux-policy-mls

Uninstall selinux-policy-mls And Its Dependencies

To uninstall selinux-policy-mls and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove selinux-policy-mls

Remove selinux-policy-mls Configurations and Data

To remove selinux-policy-mls configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge selinux-policy-mls

Remove selinux-policy-mls configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove selinux-policy-mls configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge selinux-policy-mls
