What is salt-proxy

salt-proxy is:

Proxy minion allows a remote manager to administer devices that are unable to run a minion. salt is a powerful remote execution manager that can be used to administer servers in a fast and efficient way.

It allows commands to be executed across large groups of devices. This means systems can be easily managed, but data can also be easily gathered. Quick introspection into running systems becomes a reality.

Remote execution is usually used to set up a certain state on a remote system. Salt addresses this problem as well, the salt state system uses salt state files to define the state a server needs to be in.

Between the remote execution system, and state management Salt addresses the backbone of cloud and data center management.

This particular package provides the salt proxy minion. It is able to run salt modules and states on remote hosts via a proxy which transmits appropriate commands to devices and replies with the results of said commands.

There are three methods to install salt-proxy on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install salt-proxy Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install salt-proxy using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install salt-proxy

Install salt-proxy Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install salt-proxy using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install salt-proxy

Install salt-proxy Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install salt-proxy using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install salt-proxy

How To Uninstall salt-proxy on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the salt-proxy package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove salt-proxy

Uninstall salt-proxy And Its Dependencies

To uninstall salt-proxy and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove salt-proxy

Remove salt-proxy Configurations and Data

To remove salt-proxy configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge salt-proxy

Remove salt-proxy configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove salt-proxy configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge salt-proxy
