What is python3-osmalchemy
python3-osmalchemy is:
OSMAlchemy is a bridge between SQLAlchemy and the OpenStreetMap API.
OSMAlchemy’s goal is to provide completely transparent integration of the real-world OpenStreetMap data within projects using SQLAlchemy. It provides two things:
- Model declaratives resembling the structure of the main OpenStreetMap database, with some limitations, usable wherever SQLAlchemy is used, and
- Transparent proxying and data-fetching from OpenStreetMap data.
The idea is that the model can be queried using SQLAlchemy, and OSMAlchemy will either satisfy the query from the database directly or fetch data from OpenStreetMap.
OSMAlchemy can work together with Flask-SQLAlchemy for easy use in Flask applications, and it can also be used with pure SQLAlchemy.
There are three methods to install python3-osmalchemy on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install python3-osmalchemy Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install python3-osmalchemy using apt-get by running the following command:

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install python3-osmalchemy using apt by running the following command:

Install python3-osmalchemy Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install python3-osmalchemy using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install python3-osmalchemy
How To Uninstall python3-osmalchemy on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the python3-osmalchemy package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove python3-osmalchemy
Uninstall python3-osmalchemy And Its Dependencies
To uninstall python3-osmalchemy and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove python3-osmalchemy
Remove python3-osmalchemy Configurations and Data
To remove python3-osmalchemy configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge python3-osmalchemy
Remove python3-osmalchemy configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove python3-osmalchemy configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge python3-osmalchemy
