How To Install python2-serpent on Debian 9

In this tutorial we learn how to install python2-serpent on Debian 9.
What is python2-serpent
python2-serpent is:
Serpent provides ast.literal_eval() compatible object tree serialization. It serializes an object tree into bytes (utf-8 encoded string) that can be decoded and then passed as-is to ast.literal_eval() to rebuild it as the original object tree. As such it is safe to send serpent data to other machines over the network for instance (because only ‘safe’ literals are encoded).
This package contains the core Serpent module for Python 2.x .
There are three methods to install python2-serpent on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install python2-serpent Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install python2-serpent using apt-get by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install python2-serpent using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install python2-serpent
How To Uninstall python2-serpent on Debian 9
To uninstall only the python2-serpent package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove python2-serpent
Uninstall python2-serpent And Its Dependencies
To uninstall python2-serpent and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove python2-serpent
Remove python2-serpent Configurations and Data
To remove python2-serpent configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge python2-serpent
