How To Install python-tap on Debian 9

In this tutorial we learn how to install python-tap on Debian 9.
What is python-tap
python-tap is:
The tap.py package provides a set of tools for working with the Test Anything Protocol (TAP). TAP is a line based test protocol for recording test data in a standard way.
As a TAP producer, this package comes with a test-runner that implements the unittest.TestRunner interface and produces TAP compliant output. It also provides a plug-in for the nose test framework.
As a TAP consumer, it includes tools to parse the output of TAP compliant producers. It also provides means to replay a test-suite from a captured output, without having to actually run the tests again.
This package provide the Python 2.x version of tap.py.
There are three methods to install python-tap on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install python-tap Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install python-tap using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install python-tap
Install python-tap Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install python-tap using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install python-tap
Install python-tap Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install python-tap using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install python-tap
How To Uninstall python-tap on Debian 9
To uninstall only the python-tap package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove python-tap
Uninstall python-tap And Its Dependencies
To uninstall python-tap and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove python-tap
Remove python-tap Configurations and Data
To remove python-tap configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge python-tap
Remove python-tap configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
