What is python-opencv
python-opencv is:
This package contains Python bindings for the OpenCV (Open Computer Vision) library.
The Open Computer Vision Library is a collection of algorithms and sample code for various computer vision problems. The library is compatible with IPL (Intel’s Image Processing Library) and, if available, can use IPP (Intel’s Integrated Performance Primitives) for better performance.
OpenCV provides low level portable data types and operators, and a set of high level functionalities for video acquisition, image processing and analysis, structural analysis, motion analysis and object tracking, object recognition, camera calibration and 3D reconstruction.
There are three methods to install python-opencv
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get

and aptitude

Install python-opencv Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install python-opencv
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install python-opencv

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install python-opencv
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install python-opencv
Install python-opencv Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install python-opencv
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install python-opencv
How To Uninstall python-opencv on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the python-opencv
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove python-opencv
Uninstall python-opencv And Its Dependencies
To uninstall python-opencv
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove python-opencv
Remove python-opencv Configurations and Data
To remove python-opencv
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge python-opencv
Remove python-opencv configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove python-opencv
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge python-opencv
