How To Install python-olm on Debian 10

In this tutorial we learn how to install python-olm on Debian 10.
What is python-olm
python-olm is:
Olm is an implementation of the Double Ratchet cryptographic ratchet described by https://whispersystems.org/docs/specifications/doubleratchet/, written in C and C++11 and exposed as a C API.
This library also includes an implementation of the Megolm cryptographic ratchet which is intended for encrypted messaging applications where there may be a large number of recipients of each message, thus precluding the use of peer-to-peer encryption systems such as Olm.
Megolm is the end-to-end encryption system for the Matrix communications protocol.
This package contains the Python bindings for libolm.
There are three methods to install python-olm on Debian 10. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install python-olm Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install python-olm using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install python-olm
Install python-olm Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install python-olm using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install python-olm
Install python-olm Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install python-olm using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install python-olm
How To Uninstall python-olm on Debian 10
To uninstall only the python-olm package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove python-olm
Uninstall python-olm And Its Dependencies
To uninstall python-olm and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 10, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove python-olm
Remove python-olm Configurations and Data
To remove python-olm configuration and data from Debian 10 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge python-olm
Remove python-olm configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
