What is python-odf

python-odf is:

Odfpy is a library to read and write OpenDocument v. 1.1 files. The main focus has been to prevent the programmer from creating invalid documents. It has checks that raise an exception if the programmer adds an invalid element, adds an attribute unknown to the grammar, forgets to add a required attribute or adds text to an element that doesn’t allow it.

These checks and the API itself were generated from the RelaxNG schema, and then hand-edited. Therefore the API is complete and can handle all ODF constructions.

There are three methods to install python-odf on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install python-odf Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install python-odf using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install python-odf

Install python-odf Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install python-odf using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install python-odf

Install python-odf Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install python-odf using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install python-odf

How To Uninstall python-odf on Debian 9

To uninstall only the python-odf package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove python-odf

To uninstall python-odf and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove python-odf

Remove python-odf Configurations and Data

To remove python-odf configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge python-odf
