What is python-freenect

python-freenect is:

libfreenect is a cross-platform library that provides the necessary interfaces to activate, initialize, and communicate data with the Kinect hardware. Currently, the library supports access to RGB and depth video streams, motors, accelerometer and LED and provide binding in different languages (C++, Python…)

This library is the low level component of the OpenKinect project which is an open community of people interested in making use of the Xbox Kinect hardware with PCs and other devices.

This package provides freenect extension to use libfreenect functionality from Python and includes some demo scripts.

There are three methods to install python-freenect on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install python-freenect Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install python-freenect using apt-get by running the following command:

After updating apt database, We can install python-freenect using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install python-freenect

How To Uninstall python-freenect on Debian 9

To uninstall only the python-freenect package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove python-freenect

Uninstall python-freenect And Its Dependencies

To uninstall python-freenect and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove python-freenect

Remove python-freenect Configurations and Data

To remove python-freenect configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge python-freenect
