In this tutorial we learn how to install pki-server on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is pki-server

pki-server is:

The PKI Server Framework is required by the following four PKI subsystems:

 the Certificate Authority (CA),
 the Data Recovery Manager (DRM),
 the Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) Manager, and
 the Token Key Service (TKS).

This package is a part of the PKI Core used by the Certificate System. The package contains scripts to create and remove PKI subsystems.

There are three methods to install pki-server on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install pki-server Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install pki-server using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install pki-server

Install pki-server Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install pki-server using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install pki-server

Install pki-server Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install pki-server using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install pki-server

How To Uninstall pki-server on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the pki-server package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove pki-server

Uninstall pki-server And Its Dependencies

To uninstall pki-server and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove pki-server

Remove pki-server Configurations and Data

To remove pki-server configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge pki-server

Remove pki-server configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove pki-server configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge pki-server
