How To Install openms on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install openms on Kali Linux.
What is openms
openms is:
OpenMS is a package for LC/MS data management and analysis. OpenMS offers an infrastructure for the development of mass spectrometry-related software and powerful 2D and 3D visualization solutions.
TOPP (the OpenMS proteomic pipeline) is a pipeline for the analysis of HPLC/MS data. It consists of a set of numerous small applications that can be chained together to create analysis pipelines tailored for a specific problem.
This package is a metapackage that depends on both the libopenms library package (libOpenMS and libOpenMS_GUI) and the OpenMS Proteomic Pipeline (topp) package.
There are three methods to install openms on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install openms Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install openms using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install openmsInstall openms Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install openms using apt by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install openms using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install openmsHow To Uninstall openms on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the openms package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove openmsUninstall openms And Its Dependencies
To uninstall openms and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove openmsRemove openms Configurations and Data
To remove openms configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge openmsRemove openms configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge openmsDependencies
