What is olsrd

olsrd is:

unik-olsrd is an implementation of the Optimized Link State Routing protocol for Mobile Ad-Hoc networks(MANET). The protocol is described in RFC3626. It is designed to be run as a standalone server process.

OLSR operates as a table driven, proactive protocol, i.e., it exchanges topology information with other nodes of the network regularly. It is developed to work independently from other protocols. Likewise, OLSR makes no assumptions about the underlying link-layer.

There are three methods to install olsrd on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install olsrd Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install olsrd using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install olsrd

Install olsrd Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install olsrd using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install olsrd

Install olsrd Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install olsrd using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install olsrd

How To Uninstall olsrd on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the olsrd package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove olsrd

Remove olsrd Configurations and Data

To remove olsrd configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge olsrd
