How To Install oathtool on Ubuntu 20.04

What is oathtool
oathtool is:
The OATH Toolkit makes it easy to build one-time password authentication systems. It contains shared libraries, command line tools and a PAM module. Supported technologies include the event-based HOTP algorithm (RFC4226) and the time-based TOTP algorithm (RFC6238). OATH stands for Open AuTHentication, which is the organization that specify the algorithms. For managing secret key files, the Portable Symmetric Key Container (PSKC) format described in RFC6030 is supported.
This package contains the OATH Toolkit “oathtool” command line tool. Task: lubuntu-desktop
There are three methods to install oathtool on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install oathtool Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install oathtool using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install oathtool
Install oathtool Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install oathtool using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install oathtool
Install oathtool Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install oathtool using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install oathtool
How To Uninstall oathtool on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the oathtool package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove oathtool
Uninstall oathtool And Its Dependencies
To uninstall oathtool and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove oathtool
Remove oathtool Configurations and Data
To remove oathtool configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge oathtool
Remove oathtool configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove oathtool configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge oathtool
