What is nypatchy
nypatchy is:
CERNLIB is a suite of data analysis tools and libraries created for use in physics experiments, but also with applications to other fields such as the biological sciences.
This package contains the Nypatchy family of programs, the successors to Patchy and Ypatchy. These programs are intended for working with sets of patches (for instance, for use on different machine architectures) meant to be applied to a source code tree. The patch sets and common source code are maintained as a single text-based Patchy Master file (PAM file). PAM files can contain C, FORTRAN, or assembly code.
Nypatchy and related utilities can perform actions on a PAM file such as updating it; comparing it to an older version; or outputting source code suitable for input to a compiler, having selected some subset of available patches to use. These utilities can be used interactively, or can run in batch mode from a “cradle” file of commands.
While Nypatchy is still used in places, mainly high-energy physics, these programs are no longer under active development. They are not recommended for use in new projects.
There are three methods to install nypatchy on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install nypatchy Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install nypatchy using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install nypatchy

After updating apt database, We can install nypatchy using apt by running the following command:

Install nypatchy Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install nypatchy using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install nypatchy
How To Uninstall nypatchy on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the nypatchy package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove nypatchy
Uninstall nypatchy And Its Dependencies
To uninstall nypatchy and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove nypatchy
Remove nypatchy Configurations and Data
To remove nypatchy configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge nypatchy
Remove nypatchy configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove nypatchy configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge nypatchy
