How To Install nvidia-340 on Ubuntu 18.04

nvidia-340 is:
The binary driver provide optimized hardware acceleration of OpenGL applications via a direct-rendering X Server. AGP, PCIe, SLI, TV-out and flat panel displays are also supported.
This package also includes the source for building the kernel module required by the Xorg driver, and provides NVIDIA’s implementation of the Video Decode and presentation API. The latter enables acceleration for GeForce 8 and later series cards for h264 video.

There are three methods to install nvidia-340 on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install nvidia-340 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install nvidia-340 using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install nvidia-340
Install nvidia-340 Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install nvidia-340 using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install nvidia-340
Install nvidia-340 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install nvidia-340 using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install nvidia-340
How To Uninstall nvidia-340 on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the nvidia-340 package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove nvidia-340
Uninstall nvidia-340 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall nvidia-340 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove nvidia-340
Remove nvidia-340 Configurations and Data
To remove nvidia-340 configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge nvidia-340
Remove nvidia-340 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove nvidia-340 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge nvidia-340
