Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install nfdump on Rocky Linux 8.

What is nfdump

Nfdump is a set of tools to collect and process NetFlow data. It’s fast and has a powerful filter pcap like syntax. It supports NetFlow versions v1, v5, v7, v9 and IPFIX as well as a limited set of sflow. It includes support for CISCO ASA (NSEL) and CISCO NAT (NEL) devices which export event logging records as v9 flows. Nfdump is fully IPv6 compatible.

We can use yum or dnf to install nfdump on Rocky Linux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install nfdump.

Install nfdump on Rocky Linux 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install nfdump using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install nfdump

Install nfdump on Rocky Linux 8 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install nfdump using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install nfdump

How To Uninstall nfdump on Rocky Linux 8

To uninstall only the nfdump package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove nfdump
