How To Install mariadb on Rocky Linux 8

In this tutorial we learn how to install mariadb
on Rocky Linux 8.
What is mariadb
MariaDB is a community developed branch of MySQL - a multi-user, multi-threaded SQL database server. It is a client/server implementation consisting of a server daemon (mysqld) and many different client programs and libraries. The base package contains the standard MariaDB/MySQL client programs and generic MySQL files.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install mariadb
on Rocky Linux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install mariadb.
Install mariadb on Rocky Linux 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install mariadb
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install mariadb
Install mariadb on Rocky Linux 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install mariadb
using yum
by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install mariadb
How To Uninstall mariadb on Rocky Linux 8
To uninstall only the mariadb
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove mariadb
