How To Install mailping on Ubuntu 18.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install mailping
on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is mailping
mailping is:
Monitor email service availability and functioning. Tests the whole route from SMTP submission to local delivery, not just whether an SMTP server accepts TCP connections.
Multiple email servers can be tested by creating a remote alias that points back to a local address, and sending test emails to it.
The results of this monitoring are available as graphs via Munin plugins, and can be connected to Nagios to send alerts when the test emails no longer get delivered, or if the delivery takes too long.
There are three methods to install mailping
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install mailping Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install mailping
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install mailping

After updating apt database, We can install mailping

Install mailping Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude

How To Uninstall mailping on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the mailping

sudo apt-get -y autoremove mailping
Remove mailping Configurations and Data
To remove mailping
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge mailping
