What is lxd-tools

lxd-tools is:

LXD offers a REST API to remotely manage containers over the network, using an image based workflow and with support for live migration.

This package contains extra tools provided with LXD.

  • fuidshift - A tool to map/unmap filesystem uids/gids
  • lxc-to-lxd - A tool to migrate LXC containers to LXD
  • lxd-benchmark - A benchmarking tool for LXD

There are three methods to install lxd-tools on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install lxd-tools Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install lxd-tools using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install lxd-tools

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install lxd-tools using apt by running the following command:

Install lxd-tools Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install lxd-tools using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install lxd-tools

How To Uninstall lxd-tools on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the lxd-tools package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove lxd-tools

Uninstall lxd-tools And Its Dependencies

To uninstall lxd-tools and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove lxd-tools

Remove lxd-tools Configurations and Data

To remove lxd-tools configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge lxd-tools

We can use the following command to remove lxd-tools configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
