How To Install lxc-utils on Ubuntu 18.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install lxc-utils on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is lxc-utils
lxc-utils is:
Containers are insulated areas inside a system, which have their own namespace for filesystem, network, PID, IPC, CPU and memory allocation and which can be created using the Control Group and Namespace features included in the Linux kernel.
This package provides the lxc-* tools, which can be used to start a single daemon in a container, or to boot an entire “containerized” system, and to manage and debug your containers.
There are three methods to install lxc-utils on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install lxc-utils Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install lxc-utils using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install lxc-utils
Install lxc-utils Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install lxc-utils using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install lxc-utils
Install lxc-utils Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install lxc-utils using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install lxc-utils
How To Uninstall lxc-utils on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the lxc-utils package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove lxc-utils
Uninstall lxc-utils And Its Dependencies
To uninstall lxc-utils and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove lxc-utils
Remove lxc-utils Configurations and Data
To remove lxc-utils configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge lxc-utils
Remove lxc-utils configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove lxc-utils configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge lxc-utils
