How To Install libug-dev on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libug-dev on Debian 9.
What is libug-dev
libug-dev is:
UG is a flexible software tool for the numerical solution of partial differential equations on unstructured meshes, with a focus on multigrid methods. It has a very powerful grid manager, which supports two- and three-dimensional grids with mixed element types. The grids can be adaptively refinement using either classic red/green-refinement, or pure red refinement with hanging nodes. All this is fully parallelized and can run on large distributed machines.
The version in this package has been built with the necessary flags for use with the Dune software system.

There are three methods to install libug-dev on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libug-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libug-dev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libug-dev

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libug-dev using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libug-dev
Install libug-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libug-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libug-dev
How To Uninstall libug-dev on Debian 9
To uninstall only the libug-dev package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libug-dev
Uninstall libug-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libug-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libug-dev
Remove libug-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libug-dev configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libug-dev
