How To Install libssm2 on Debian 12

In this tutorial we learn how to install libssm2 on Debian 12.
What is libssm2
libssm2 is:
SSM is a macromolecular coordinate superposition library, written by Eugene Krissinel of the EBI.
The library implements the SSM algorithm of protein structure comparison in three dimensions, which includes an original procedure of matching graphs built on the protein’s secondary-structure elements, followed by an iterative three-dimensional alignment of protein backbone Calpha atoms.
This package contains the shared library components needed for programs that have been compiled with the ssm library.
There are three methods to install libssm2 on Debian 12. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libssm2 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libssm2 using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libssm2
Install libssm2 Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libssm2 using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libssm2
Install libssm2 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install libssm2 using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libssm2
How To Uninstall libssm2 on Debian 12
To uninstall only the libssm2 package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libssm2

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libssm2

To remove libssm2 configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libssm2
