In this tutorial we learn how to install libspnav on Rocky Linux 8.

What is libspnav

The spacenav project provides a free, compatible alternative to the proprietary 3Dconnexion device driver and SDK, for their 3D input devices (called “space navigator”, “space pilot”, “space traveller”, etc). This package provides the library needed for applications to connect to the user land daemon.

We can use yum or dnf to install libspnav on Rocky Linux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install libspnav.

Install libspnav on Rocky Linux 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install libspnav using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install libspnav

Install libspnav on Rocky Linux 8 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install libspnav using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install libspnav

How To Uninstall libspnav on Rocky Linux 8

To uninstall only the libspnav package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove libspnav
