How To Install libspfft0 on Ubuntu 20.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install libspfft0 on Ubuntu 20.04. libspfft0 is Sparse 3D FFT library with MPI, OpenMP, CUDA / ROCm support

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install libspfft0 on Ubuntu 20.04.

What is libspfft0

libspfft0 is:

SpFFT was originally intended for transforms of data with spherical cutoff in frequency domain, as required by some computational material science codes. For distributed computations, SpFFT uses a slab decomposition in space domain and pencil decomposition in frequency domain (all sparse data within a pencil must be on one rank). If desired, the libray can be compiled without any parallelization (MPI, OpenMP, CUDA / ROCm).

There are three methods to install libspfft0 on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libspfft0 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libspfft0 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libspfft0

Install libspfft0 Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libspfft0 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libspfft0

Install libspfft0 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libspfft0 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libspfft0

How To Uninstall libspfft0 on Ubuntu 20.04

To uninstall only the libspfft0 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libspfft0

Uninstall libspfft0 And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libspfft0 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
