How To Install libsapi-dev on Ubuntu 18.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libsapi-dev on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is libsapi-dev
libsapi-dev is:
TPM2.0 TSS (Software Stack) consists of API layers provided to support TPM 2.0 chips. It is made out of three layers:
- System API (SAPI), which implements the system layer API;
- TPM Command Transmission Interface (TCTI), which is used by SAPI to allow communication with the TAB/RM layer;
- Trusted Access Broker/Resource Manager (TAB/RM), which handles TPM resources and process coordination.
This package contains development files for use when writing applications that need access to TPM chips.
There are three methods to install libsapi-dev on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libsapi-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libsapi-dev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libsapi-dev

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libsapi-dev using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libsapi-dev
Install libsapi-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libsapi-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libsapi-dev
How To Uninstall libsapi-dev on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the libsapi-dev package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libsapi-dev
Uninstall libsapi-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libsapi-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libsapi-dev
Remove libsapi-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libsapi-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libsapi-dev
Remove libsapi-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libsapi-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libsapi-dev
