How To Install libpawlib2-gfortran on Ubuntu 20.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libpawlib2-gfortran on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is libpawlib2-gfortran
libpawlib2-gfortran is:
CERNLIB is a suite of data analysis tools and libraries created for use in physics experiments, but also with applications to other fields such as the biological sciences.
This package includes (most of) the library pawlib, required by the CERNLIB application PAW. In addition to the internal workings of PAW, pawlib also provides the COMIS FORTRAN interpreter and the SIGMA array manipulation language. The Lesstif-dependent parts of the library are provided in the libpawlib-lesstif3-gfortran package.
Note that in order to compile and link programs against this library, you must install the libpawlib2-dev and maybe also the libpawlib-lesstif3-dev package(s).
The COMIS portion of this library is functional on 64-bit machines only when statically linked.
There are three methods to install libpawlib2-gfortran on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libpawlib2-gfortran Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libpawlib2-gfortran using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libpawlib2-gfortran

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libpawlib2-gfortran using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libpawlib2-gfortran
How To Uninstall libpawlib2-gfortran on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the libpawlib2-gfortran package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libpawlib2-gfortran

To uninstall libpawlib2-gfortran and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libpawlib2-gfortran
Remove libpawlib2-gfortran Configurations and Data
To remove libpawlib2-gfortran configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libpawlib2-gfortran
Remove libpawlib2-gfortran configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libpawlib2-gfortran configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libpawlib2-gfortran
