How To Install libfreenect-dev on Debian 10

on Debian 10.
What is libfreenect-dev
libfreenect-dev is:
libfreenect is a cross-platform library that provides the necessary interfaces to activate, initialize, and communicate data with the Kinect hardware. Currently, the library supports access to RGB and depth video streams, motors, accelerometer and LED and provide binding in different languages (C++, Python…)
This library is the low level component of the OpenKinect project which is an open community of people interested in making use of the Xbox Kinect hardware with PCs and other devices.
This is the development package containing the libraries and header for software development with libfreenect.
There are three methods to install libfreenect-dev
on Debian 10. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libfreenect-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libfreenect-dev
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libfreenect-dev

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libfreenect-dev
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libfreenect-dev
Install libfreenect-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libfreenect-dev
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libfreenect-dev
How To Uninstall libfreenect-dev on Debian 10
To uninstall only the libfreenect-dev
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libfreenect-dev
Uninstall libfreenect-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libfreenect-dev
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 10, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libfreenect-dev
Remove libfreenect-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libfreenect-dev
configuration and data from Debian 10 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libfreenect-dev
Remove libfreenect-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libfreenect-dev
