What is libdv

The Quasar DV codec (libdv) is a software codec for DV video, the encoding format used by most digital camcorders, typically those that support the IEEE 1394 (a.k.a. FireWire or i.Link) interface. libdv was developed according to the official standards for DV video and SMPTE 314M.

We can use yum or dnf to install libdv on Rocky Linux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install libdv.

Install libdv on Rocky Linux 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install libdv using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install libdv

Install libdv on Rocky Linux 8 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install libdv using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install libdv

How To Uninstall libdv on Rocky Linux 8

To uninstall only the libdv package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove libdv
