How To Install libcurl3 on Ubuntu 18.04

libcurl3 is:
libcurl is an easy-to-use client-side URL transfer library, supporting DICT, FILE, FTP, FTPS, GOPHER, HTTP, HTTPS, IMAP, IMAPS, LDAP, LDAPS, POP3, POP3S, RTMP, RTSP, SCP, SFTP, SMTP, SMTPS, TELNET and TFTP.
libcurl supports SSL certificates, HTTP POST, HTTP PUT, FTP uploading, HTTP form based upload, proxies, cookies, user+password authentication (Basic, Digest, NTLM, Negotiate, Kerberos), file transfer resume, http proxy tunneling and more!
libcurl is free, thread-safe, IPv6 compatible, feature rich, well supported, fast, thoroughly documented and is already used by many known, big and successful companies and numerous applications.
SSL support is provided by OpenSSL.
There are three methods to install libcurl3
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libcurl3 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libcurl3
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libcurl3
Install libcurl3 Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libcurl3
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libcurl3
Install libcurl3 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libcurl3
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libcurl3
How To Uninstall libcurl3 on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the libcurl3
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libcurl3
Uninstall libcurl3 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libcurl3
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libcurl3
Remove libcurl3 Configurations and Data
To remove libcurl3
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libcurl3
Remove libcurl3 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libcurl3
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libcurl3
