How To Install key-mon on Debian 9

In this tutorial we learn how to install key-mon
on Debian 9.
What is key-mon
key-mon is:
key-mon shows on the desktop indicators of current keyboard and mouse status, and updates them live when you press keys or mouse buttons. It is very useful for teaching, live presentation and screencasts to show the user what keys/buttons you are pressing.
Features include several different themes, scalability to any size, support for super key and mouse wheel, support for multiple mouses/keyboards.
There are three methods to install key-mon
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install key-mon Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install key-mon
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install key-mon

sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install key-mon
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install key-mon
Install key-mon Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install key-mon
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install key-mon
How To Uninstall key-mon on Debian 9
To uninstall only the key-mon
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove key-mon
Uninstall key-mon And Its Dependencies
To uninstall key-mon
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove key-mon
Remove key-mon Configurations and Data
To remove key-mon
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge key-mon
