How To Install icinga-core on Debian 10
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install icinga-core on Debian 10.
What is icinga-core
icinga-core is:
Icinga is a modular monitoring framework for hosts, services, and networks, based on the Nagios project. It is designed to be easy to understand and modify to fit any need.
Features include:
- monitoring of network services via ping, SMTP, POP3, HTTP, NNTP, or TCP port
- plugin interface to allow for user-developed service checks;
- contact notifications when problems occur and get resolved (via email, pager, or user-defined method)
- support for proactive problem resolution (handlers can be defined to be run during service or host events)
- web output: current status, notifications, problem history, log file, etc.
This package provides the core of Icinga without the web front-end.
There are three methods to install icinga-core on Debian 10. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install icinga-core Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install icinga-core using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install icinga-core
Install icinga-core Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install icinga-core using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install icinga-core
Install icinga-core Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install icinga-core using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install icinga-core
How To Uninstall icinga-core on Debian 10
To uninstall only the icinga-core package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove icinga-core
Uninstall icinga-core And Its Dependencies
To uninstall icinga-core and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 10, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove icinga-core
Remove icinga-core Configurations and Data
To remove icinga-core configuration and data from Debian 10 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge icinga-core
Remove icinga-core configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove icinga-core configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge icinga-core
