How To Install go-git on Debian 12

In this tutorial we learn how to install go-git
on Debian 12.
What is go-git
go-git is:
go-git is a highly extensible git implementation library written in pure Go.
It can be used to manipulate git repositories at low level (plumbing) or high level (porcelain), through an idiomatic Go API. It also supports several types of storage, such as in-memory filesystems, or custom implementations, thanks to the Storer interface.
This package provides command line interface of this library.
There are three methods to install go-git
on Debian 12. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install go-git Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install go-git
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install go-git
Install go-git Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install go-git
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install go-git
Install go-git Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install go-git

How To Uninstall go-git on Debian 12
To uninstall only the go-git
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove go-git
Uninstall go-git And Its Dependencies
To uninstall go-git
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove go-git
Remove go-git Configurations and Data
To remove go-git
configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge go-git
