What is gconf2-common

gconf2-common is:

GConf is a configuration database system for storing application preferences. It supports default or mandatory settings set by the administrator, and changes to the database are instantly applied to all running applications. It is written for the GNOME desktop but doesn’t require it.

This package contains the default configuration and localization files.

This package is for legacy applications and no longer used by GNOME.

There are three methods to install gconf2-common on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install gconf2-common Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install gconf2-common using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install gconf2-common

To uninstall only the gconf2-common package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove gconf2-common

sudo apt-get -y autoremove gconf2-common

To remove gconf2-common configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge gconf2-common
