How To Install galaxd on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install galaxd
on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is galaxd
galaxd is:
Galax is an implementation of XQuery, the W3C XML Query Language.
Galax implements XQuery 1.0 as specified by the W3C, as well as XPath 2.0, which is subset of XQuery 1.0.
Galax is a Schema-aware implementation of XQuery and supports static typing. Also thanks to that, Galax is a really fast implementation of the language.
Galax supports some advanced XQuery features, such as XML Schema validation, XML updates, XQuery optimization and projection, applications of XQuery to Web services.
This package contains galaxd, the Galax network server which executes query plans issued by remote clients. Extra helpers for remote execution (zerod and webgui) are also provided by this package.
There are three methods to install galaxd
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install galaxd Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install galaxd
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install galaxd

Update apt database with apt

sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install galaxd
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install galaxd
Install galaxd Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install galaxd
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install galaxd
How To Uninstall galaxd on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the galaxd
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove galaxd
Uninstall galaxd And Its Dependencies
To uninstall galaxd
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove galaxd
Remove galaxd Configurations and Data
To remove galaxd
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge galaxd
Remove galaxd configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove galaxd
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge galaxd
