How To Install galax on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install galax
on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is galax
galax is:
Galax is an implementation of XQuery, the W3C XML Query Language.
Galax implements XQuery 1.0 as specified by the W3C, as well as XPath 2.0, which is subset of XQuery 1.0.
Galax is a Schema-aware implementation of XQuery and supports static typing. Also thanks to that, Galax is a really fast implementation of the language.
Galax supports some advanced XQuery features, such as XML Schema validation, XML updates, XQuery optimization and projection, applications of XQuery to Web services.
This package contains the command line front-ends to evaluate XQuery queries and to validate XML documents against XML Schemas.
There are three methods to install galax
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install galax Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install galax
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install galax
Install galax Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install galax
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install galax
Install galax Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install galax
using aptitude

sudo aptitude -y install galax
How To Uninstall galax on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the galax
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove galax
Uninstall galax And Its Dependencies
To uninstall galax
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove galax
Remove galax Configurations and Data
To remove galax
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge galax
Remove galax configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove galax
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge galax
