FreeCAD is an Open Source CAx RAD based on OpenCasCade, Qt and Python. It features some key concepts like macro recording, workbenches, ability to run as a server and dynamically loadable application extensions and it is designed to be platform independent.

Currently, FreeCAD can import and display CAD models in IGES, STEP, and BRep formats and meshes in STL, BMS, AST and Wavefront OBJ formats. Editing and modeling features are currently somewhat limited.

There are three methods to install freecad on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install freecad Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install freecad using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install freecad

Install freecad Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install freecad using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install freecad

Install freecad Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install freecad using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install freecad

How To Uninstall freecad on Debian 9

To uninstall only the freecad package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove freecad

Uninstall freecad And Its Dependencies

To uninstall freecad and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove freecad

Remove freecad Configurations and Data

To remove freecad configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge freecad

Remove freecad configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
