In this tutorial we learn how to install etcd-discovery on Ubuntu 20.04.

What is etcd-discovery

etcd-discovery is:

This code powers the public service at https://discovery.etcd.io. This package provides a standalone initial discovery URL if contacting the https://discovery.etcd.io is not possible in your deployment (for example if your server doesn’t have internet connectivity).

Note that in a normal etcd cluster setup, this service isn’t mandatory, however, etcd discovery is mandatory to be able to run OpenStack Magnum, which is why this package exist.

There are three methods to install etcd-discovery on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install etcd-discovery Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install etcd-discovery using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install etcd-discovery

Install etcd-discovery Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install etcd-discovery using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install etcd-discovery

Install etcd-discovery Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install etcd-discovery using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install etcd-discovery

How To Uninstall etcd-discovery on Ubuntu 20.04

To uninstall only the etcd-discovery package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove etcd-discovery

Uninstall etcd-discovery And Its Dependencies

To uninstall etcd-discovery and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove etcd-discovery

Remove etcd-discovery Configurations and Data

To remove etcd-discovery configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge etcd-discovery

Remove etcd-discovery configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove etcd-discovery configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge etcd-discovery
