In this tutorial we learn how to install elinks-doc on Debian 9.

elinks-doc is:

ELinks is a feature-rich program for browsing the web in text mode. It is like enhanced Lynx and Links. The most noteworthy features of ELinks are:

  • Lots of protocols (local files, finger, HTTP(S), FTP, IPv4/6 etc.)
  • Internationalized domain names
  • Persistent cookies, HTTP authentication and proxy authentication
  • Tabbed browsing, good looking menus and dialogs, and key-binding manager
  • History browsing and typeahead searches
  • Forms history and completion, and history in commonly used input dialogs
  • CSS support and support for browser scripting (Perl, Lua, Guile etc.)
  • Tables and frames rendering, and configurable color support
  • Compressed and background (non-blocking) downloads, and download resuming

There are three methods to install elinks-doc on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install elinks-doc using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install elinks-doc

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install elinks-doc using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install elinks-doc

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install elinks-doc using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install elinks-doc

To uninstall only the elinks-doc package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove elinks-doc

To uninstall elinks-doc and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove elinks-doc

To remove elinks-doc configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge elinks-doc

We can use the following command to remove elinks-doc configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge elinks-doc
