What is designate-mdns
designate-mdns is:
Designate provides DNSaaS services for OpenStack. It provides a multi-tenant REST API for domain & record management. It is Integrated with Keystone for authentication, and provides a framework in place to integrate with Nova and Neutron notifications (for auto-generated records). Designate supports PowerDNS and Bind9 out of the box.
This package provides the mdns service.

There are three methods to install designate-mdns
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install designate-mdns Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install designate-mdns
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install designate-mdns
Install designate-mdns Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install designate-mdns
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install designate-mdns
Install designate-mdns Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install designate-mdns
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install designate-mdns
How To Uninstall designate-mdns on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the designate-mdns
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove designate-mdns
Uninstall designate-mdns And Its Dependencies
To uninstall designate-mdns
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove designate-mdns
Remove designate-mdns Configurations and Data
To remove designate-mdns
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge designate-mdns
Remove designate-mdns configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove designate-mdns
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge designate-mdns
