How To Install cfitsio on Rocky Linux 8

What is cfitsio
CFITSIO is a library of C and FORTRAN subroutines for reading and writing data files in FITS (Flexible Image Transport System) data format. At the same time, CFITSIO provides many advanced features that have made it the most widely used FITS file programming interface in the astronomical community.
We can use yum or dnf to install cfitsio on Rocky Linux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install cfitsio.
Install cfitsio on Rocky Linux 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install cfitsio using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install cfitsio
Install cfitsio on Rocky Linux 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install cfitsio using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install cfitsio
How To Uninstall cfitsio on Rocky Linux 8
To uninstall only the cfitsio package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove cfitsio
