How To Install cernlib-core on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install cernlib-core
on Debian 9.
What is cernlib-core
cernlib-core is:
CERNLIB is a suite of data analysis tools and libraries created for use in physics experiments, but also with applications to other fields such as the biological sciences.
This metapackage provides the libraries and analysis tools (e.g. PAW) likely to be wanted by most users of the CERN libraries who are not interested specifically in high energy physics. It does not provide development libraries or tools; those may be obtained by installing the cernlib-core-dev metapackage or individual lib*-dev packages.
There are three methods to install cernlib-core
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install cernlib-core Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install cernlib-core
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install cernlib-core
Install cernlib-core Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install cernlib-core
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install cernlib-core
Install cernlib-core Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install cernlib-core
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install cernlib-core
How To Uninstall cernlib-core on Debian 9
To uninstall only the cernlib-core
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove cernlib-core
Uninstall cernlib-core And Its Dependencies
To uninstall cernlib-core
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove cernlib-core
Remove cernlib-core Configurations and Data
To remove cernlib-core
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge cernlib-core
Remove cernlib-core configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove cernlib-core
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge cernlib-core
