In this tutorial we learn how to install ceph-deploy on Ubuntu 20.04.

What is ceph-deploy

ceph-deploy is:

Ceph is a massively scalable, open-source, distributed storage system that runs on commodity hardware and delivers object, block and file system storage.

ceph-deploy is an easy to use deployment and configuration tool to deploy Ceph relying on just SSH access to the servers, sudo, and some Python. It runs fully on your workstation, requiring no servers, databases, or anything like that.

If you set up and tear down Ceph clusters a lot, and want minimal extra bureaucracy, this is for you.

This package includes the programs and libraries to support simple ceph cluster deployment.

There are three methods to install ceph-deploy on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install ceph-deploy Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install ceph-deploy using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install ceph-deploy

Install ceph-deploy Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install ceph-deploy using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install ceph-deploy

Install ceph-deploy Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install ceph-deploy using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install ceph-deploy

How To Uninstall ceph-deploy on Ubuntu 20.04

To uninstall only the ceph-deploy package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ceph-deploy

Uninstall ceph-deploy And Its Dependencies

To uninstall ceph-deploy and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove ceph-deploy

Remove ceph-deploy Configurations and Data

To remove ceph-deploy configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge ceph-deploy

Remove ceph-deploy configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove ceph-deploy configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ceph-deploy
