How To Install blueproximity on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install blueproximity
on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is blueproximity
blueproximity is:
blueproximity helps you adding a little more security to your desktop. It does so by detecting one of your bluetooth devices, most likely your mobile phone, and keeping track of its distance. If you move away from your computer and the distance is above a certain level (no measurement in meters is possible) for a given time, it automatically locks your desktop (or starts any other shell command you want).
Once away, if you return nearer than a given level for a set time your computer unlocks magically without any interaction (or starts any other shell command you want).
There are three methods to install blueproximity
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install blueproximity Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install blueproximity
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install blueproximity
Install blueproximity Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install blueproximity
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install blueproximity
Install blueproximity Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install blueproximity
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install blueproximity
How To Uninstall blueproximity on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the blueproximity
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove blueproximity
Uninstall blueproximity And Its Dependencies
To uninstall blueproximity
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove blueproximity
Remove blueproximity Configurations and Data
To remove blueproximity
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge blueproximity
Remove blueproximity configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove blueproximity
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge blueproximity
