How To Install yum on CentOS 8

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install yum on CentOS 8.

What is yum

Utility that allows users to manage packages on their systems. It supports RPMs, modules and comps groups & environments. yum 4.4.2 11.el8 noarch 198 k dnf-4.4.2-11.el8.src.rpm baseos Package manager https GPLv2+ and GPLv2 and GPL Utility that allows users to manage packages on their systems. It supports RPMs, modules and comps groups & environments.

We can use yum or dnf to install yum on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install yum.

Install yum on CentOS 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install yum using dnf by running the following command:

How To Uninstall yum on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the yum package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove yum
